Finding out you have cancer is a life changing diagnosis.   Seeking a second opinion is a natural step before embarking on medical therapy and surgical cancer treatment.  Treatment decisions should be made after you have learned all you can about your diagnosis, prognosis, and available treatment options. 

A second opinion will confirm your diagnosis and provides you an opportunity to speak one-on-one with the board-certified pathologist (the physician who makes a cancer diagnosis).   One key distinction with obtaining a second opinion through us versus other providers is that you get to speak with the pathologist who is making the diagnosis—directly.

What does a second opinion consult entail?

You will first start by scheduling a phone consultation with our Yale and Johns Hopkins trained board certified pathologist at a time that is convenient for you.  We have same-day appointments available.  

You will then onboard with our service by completing online on-boarding documents and mailing us accompanying material [clinician’s notes, prior pathology report(s), pathology slides and/or histopathology blocks]. Our Yale and Johns Hopkins trained expert board-certified pathologist will then have a phone consultation with you, at your convenience, to learn more about your medical history.  Our pathologist will then review your biopsy report and render best-classification of your tumor based review of submitted medical information.  Depending on your medical history and other pertinent information we may perform ancillary studies to further assess your diagnosis so that we can provide you a more definite answers regarding your diagnosis. 

Did you know that you may be eligible for certain immunotherapies depending on the genetics of your cancer? Where cancer is diagnosed, we can work you characterize the genetics of your tumor cells using Next Gen Sequencing (the latest state of the art molecular pathology technology) that is not available at your average doctor’s office.  Assessing the genetics of your cancer may provide new treatment opportunities. The Next Gen Sequencing may also identify whether your children and grandchildren may be at risk of the cancer you have.  An early diagnosis can make all the difference in beating cancer.
